Today is a 'favorite things' post. So here it is, one of my two favorite breakfast spots in Chucktown. The Bear E Patch in West Ashley. You won't find it in Charleston Magazine, or in one of those tourist brochures as a 'must go', but they have the best country fried steak and gravy that I've ever put in my mouth. They make their bread inhouse so the wheat toast is always fresh and yummy, and JT likes the omelets and corn beef hash. The grits are right on, and they make these yummy things called 'Patch Potatoes' pan fried with some funky spice I can't identify. All of the ingredients they use are the real deal-no heart healthy imitation butter or Egg Beaters in this joint. There are cool signs all over the place like "Jesus and the American GI-The only two people who volunteered to die for YOU" and "You don't have to be crazy to work here, we train new employees". It's family owned and operated, and the waitresses are friendly. Its on 61 a couple of miles before Middleton Place on the right hand side of the road if you're heading to Middleton from Charleston. Next time you're in town you should check it out.
Sad news, I didn't pass the exit exam that I had to take on Friday. The program requires student nurses to take ATI board exit exams and achieve a score of 97% predicted probability of passing the state nursing boards (NCLEX-RN) on the first shot. Well your favorite nursing student studied for the damn test, has externed in the hospital both on the SICU and Heme/Onc units through school, and has breezed through school up to this point, but could only muster up a big 92%. What gives? Maybe it was the distraction of the dude in army fatigues and wearing birth control glasses sitting next to me typing so loud that it sounded like he was abusing the key board. Or maybe it was the way that he was rocking back and forth in his chair, huffing and puffing, and shaking the computer desk. Or maybe I just didn't know the correct answers. Whatever. I just have to figure it out and make a 97% by December 12th. That's a lot of stress to put on a girl.

That place sounds great! I wish there was one on the West Coast. I'm sorry to hear about your exam, but I know you will totally raise it up by the 12th. You can do it! And we'll have to have a big blog party afterwards ;)
